Junior varsity Lady Bucs edged by one point against Preston Knights, 33-32

KINGWOOD – The Buckhannon-Upshur junior varsity Lady Bucs seem to be snake-bitten in the early part of the 2019-20 season.

The Lady Bucs dropped a 33-32 road decision to the Preston Knights Thursday night to drop their record to 0-3.

They Lady Bucs have now lost two of their three games by a total of three points.

The Lady Bucs were their own worst enemy in the one-point loss as they were just six-for-16 at the free throw line in the setback.

The game started out well enough for the Lady Bucs as they took a 12-8 lead after the first quarter.

Lexi Kelley put in three baskets for six points and Olivia Ellis added a three-pointer and a free throw for four points and Justice Courtney put in two free throws for two points to account for the scoring.

With Ellis hitting another three and Kelley, Courtney and Amaia Ramirez each dropping a basket, the Lady Bucs won the second quarter by a 9-7 count.

That gave them a 21-15 at the break.

Kiara Woods scored four points and Leah Moore added two in the third quarter which went to Preston by an 8-6 margin.

The Lady Bucs still led going into the fourth quarter by a 27-23 score.

Buckhannon-Upshur managed just five points in the fourth quarter losing it by a 10-5 margin.

Olivia Ellis scored four points and Courtney one in the final period.

Ellis led the Lady Bucs with 11 points while Kelley had eight.

The Lady Bucs were slated to play Spring Mills this past Saturday.

They will return to the court tonight at Parkersburg South for a 5:45 p.m. contest.
