Junior varsity Lady Bucs come up short in losses to Tucker and Lewis County


TENNERTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur junior varsity Lady Bucs dropped a pair of games earlier this week.

The Lady Bucs added a road game with Tucker County on the fly Monday and lost a 30-15 decision.

Then on Tuesday they returned home and dropped a hard-fought 38-32 decision to Lewis County.

The action left the Lady Bucs with an 0-8 record.

The Lady Bucs took a first-quarter lead against Tucker County going up by a 7-4 count with Callie Lantz and Olivia Ellis each putting in three points and Hana Kashima adding a free throw.

A basket by Miah Reger was the only offense the Lady Bucs produced in the second quarter as they fell behind by a 14-9 score at the break.

Two free throws from McKinley Bonnett were the entire B-U offense in the third quarter as they trailed going into the final quarter by a 22-11 margin.

A basket from Rosie Shackleford and two free throws from Bonnett made up the fourth-quarter scoring for B-U as the period went to Tucker County by an 8-4 count

Bonnett led B-U in scoring with four points.

Erika Zirk had 10 points to pace Tucker County.

Against Lewis County, the Lady Bucs fell behind by an 11-5 margin after one-quarter of action with Lantz unleashing a trey and Ellis two free throws for the B-U scoring.

The Lady Bucs won the second quarter by a 9-4 count with Bonnett scoring five points and Ellis four.

That put the Lady Bucs down by just one, at 15-14.

B-U lost the third quarter by a 12-7 margin and trailed going into the final quarter by a 27-21 score.

Shackleford had five points while Bonnett had two for the Lady Bucs in the third quarter.

The last quarter was all even at 11-11 with Reger nailing a three-pointer and Ellis, Shackleford, Kashima and Kyndal Davis each putting in a basket.

Ellis led the Lady Bucs with eight points.

Elleona Stump scored a game-high 10 points for Lewis County.

The Lady Bucs will wrap their season up today as they visit Elkins for a 5:45 p.m. contest.
