Junior varsity Buccaneers roll past Riverside, 69-41

BELLE – A huge first quarter lifted the Buckhannon-Upshur junior varsity Buccaneers to a convincing 69-41 victory over the Riverside Warriors Friday evening.

The win kept the junior varsity Buccaneers perfect on the season at 6-0.

The Bucs erupted for 28 points in the first quarter.

Mason Hyre, who had a game-high 14 points, scored 14 in the first quarter while Noam Keith added five, Sterlin Thropp four, Harrison Walker three and Euan Kettle two as the Bucs took a 28-12 lead after one quarter.

With Josh Loudin pouring in six points, Lamar Hurst four, Thropp two and Kettle one, the Bucs took the second quarter by a 13-11 score.

That kept the Bucs ahead by 18 at the half, at 41-23.

The Bucs claimed the third quarter by an 11-8 margin.

Hurst tallied five points while Walker put in four and Thropp four as B-U extended their lead to 52-31 heading into the fourth quarter.

Six players to into the scoring act in the fourth quarter for the Bucs.

Zach Calef-Boring scored six, Shelton Thropp four, Felipe Montero, Walker, Oliver King two each and Kettle one as the Bucs took the final canto for a 69-41 win.

Following Hyre in the scoring column for the Bucs were Hurst and Walker with nine each.

Spencer Harvey led Riverside with eight points.

The Bucs were slated to play Lewis County on Monday.

They will return to the court Wednesday at North Marion for a 5:45 p.m. start.
