Junior varsity Buccaneers down Brooke by a 32-18 score

WELLSBURG – It was a little closer of a game that perhaps the Buckhannon-Upshur junior varsity Buccaneers thought they would be in when they faced the Brooke Bruins Saturday afternoon at the Brooke Holiday Invitational.

The Bucs still prevailed though by a 32-18 game in a contest that had a running clock and seven minute quarters to allow the later varsity games in the tournament to start on time.

The Bucs went 2-0 on the tournament and remained perfect on the season with a 5-0 ledger.

The Bucs found themselves behind by an 8-7 margin despite Lamar Hurst putting in four points, Harrison Walker two and Noam Keith one.

The Bucs tallied 10 points in the second quarter while holding Brooke to just one basket as they took a 17-10 lead into the break.

Zach Calef-Boring and Josh Loudin each had four points while Sterlin Thropp had two for the Bucs in the second quarter.

With Walker scoring four points and Thropp three, the Bucs won the third quarter by a 7-3 margin.

That left them up by a 24-13 score heading into the final quarter.

With Thropp scoring four points and Walker and Calef-Boring two each, the final quarter went to the Bucs by an 8-5 margin as they prevailed by 14.

Thropp paced the Bucs with nine points while Walker had eight and Calef-Boring six.

The Bucs will return to action tonight when they visit Riverside in a 5:45 p.m. contest.
