TENNERTON – The Buckhannon Post 7 Jr. Legion team dropped a 23-11 decision to the visiting Morgantown Post 2 Legionaries Sunday afternoon at William E. Phillips Memorial Field.
Morgantown struck early sending 15 players to the plate and scoring nine runs in the top of the first inning.
Buckhannon countered with a four-run bottom of the first with Hunter Stone hitting a three-run home run and Zach Calef-Boring scoring a run on a fielder’s choice.
Morgantown plated two more runs in their half of the second but Buckhannon answered with two of their own in the bottom of the second.
Brady Hurst drew a bases-loaded walk for the first run and Calef-Boring also forced a bases loaded walk to make it an 11-6 game.
Post 2 scored twice in the top of the third but again Buckhannon met what Morgantown was doing as they scored two runs in the bottom of the third as Zack White had the big hit in the inning with a run-producing double.
That made it a 13-8 contest.
A six-run fourth inning upped Morgantown’s lead to 19-8.
Buckhannon capitalized on a pair of Morgantown errors and a two-run double from Elijah Arbogast in the bottom of the fourth to make it a 19-10 contest
The game finally settled in until the seventh inning when Morgantown scored four times in the top of the seventh for a 23-10 lead.
Post 7 wrapped up the scoring in the bottom of the seventh with a one-run single from Cam Tenney.
Buckhannon collected 13 hits in the loss with Arbogast getting three and Isaac Lane, White, Stone and Calef-Boring each getting two.
Buckhannon used three pitchers in the contest, Lane, Evan Coffman and Tenney.
