Josephine Linger

Josephine Linger, 79, of the Glady Fork community, passed away on August 5, 2021 at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.

Josephine was born in Upshur County on January 6, 1942, at her grandparents’ home. She was the foster daughter of the late Alva and Stella Ware of Mudlick and the biological daughter of the late Arlie and Russie (Cool) Coffman. Josephine grew up in Mudlick and would reminisce about swinging on grape vines and picking berries as a child.

She was united in marriage to Roscoe Linger on February 26, 1960, who survives. This past February, they celebrated 61 wonderful years of marriage.

In addition to her husband, Josephine is survived by her three children: Vicky Wilson and husband, Joey, Joey Linger and wife, Janet, and Cindy Burke and husband, Daniel, all of Buckhannon; one granddaughter, Sydney Wilson and companion, Mason Suder, of Ellamore; two great-grandsons: Oliver and Clay Suder both of Ellamore; seven step-grandchildren: Landon, Gage, Keegan, and Tadumn Schoonover, and Jade, Makayla, and Aden Suder all of Buckhannon; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Josephine was preceded in death by two infant grandchildren: Windy Dawn Wilson and Joey Scott Wilson II; two sisters: Beulah Baginsky and Shirley Hern; one brother, Fredrick “Bud” Coffman; and one foster nephew whom she considered her brother, Bobby Ware.

Josephine graduated from Buckhannon High School in 1959. After marriage, she resided in Weston where she and her husband, Roscoe, had a hotdog stand and bar called the Wrangler’s Club. Josephine also worked at Reidboard’s sewing factory and at GC Murphy’s candy counter. After selling the bar, she and Roscoe moved to Upshur County in 1975 where they bought a farm, settled down, and continued to live until her passing. After moving to the farm, they opened Linger’s Greenhouse. Josephine and Roscoe operated Linger’s Greenhouse until they retired. Additionally they were two of the original founding members of the farmers market selling produce grown on their farm.

Josephine enjoyed seeing her family and grandchildren when they visited, raising a garden, and growing beautiful flowers in her greenhouse. She was a hard worker and worked from sun up to sun down. People would drive from all over to buy plants and poinsettias from their greenhouse. Her hobbies included crafting, sewing, quilting, canning, cooking, making everyone’s Christmas gifts, feeding the birds, and gardening.
