Jordan Gillum places eighth for cross country Buccaneers in season opener at University


MORGANTOWN – Jordan Gillum had a top 10 finish for the Buckhannon-Upshur cross country Bucs in their 2021 season debut Tuesday at the University Invitational.

Gillum finished eighth with a time of 17:59.5.

Reis Leonard had a top 20 placement as he ran 18th with a clocking of 18:49.1.

The other Bucs that scored were Jack Waggy in 26th with a time of 19:40.4., Brycen Allen taking 29th with a time of 20:10.6 and Logan Wyatt placing 38th with a time of 21:49.9.

The rest of the B-U line-up included Joseph Shipman in 74th (25:21.8), Lucas Bennett in 76th (25:27.5), Rhett Ammons in 78th (25:50.3); Brandon Landis in 87th (28:24.8), Ryan Dowell in 88th (29:08.1) and Ryan Tenney in 88th (30:17.5).

University took the top three spots as Rocco DeVincent was first with a time of 16:12.4, Ryan Blohm was second with a time of 17:01.2 and Drew Zundell is third with a time of 17:10.2.

The Bucs took fifth as a team with 114 points.

University won their own meet with 18 points while Morgantown and East Fairmont both had 90 points but Morgantown took runner-up honors on the tie-breaker.

The Bucs will run again Saturday in the Knight Night Relays at Preston High School.
