John Barton Daugherty, 91, of Buckhannon, passed away on Wednesday, June 22, 2022, under the compassionate care of Elkins Rehabilitation and Care Center.
John was born in Grove City, Pa., on July 11,1930, a son of the late John Shirley Daugherty and Ruth Barton Henry. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by one son, Frederick B. Daugherty; and four brothers: Robert, Kenneth, Gerald and Walter Daugherty.
On May 6, 1989, he married June Ceile Clowes and together they shared 26 years of marriage before her passing on December 22, 2015.
Forever cherishing their memories of John are his five children: John Daugherty and wife Diane, of Buckhannon, Mary Biser and husband Ted, of Lorentz, Vernon Daugherty and wife Sue Ellen, of Lorentz, Jim Daugherty and wife Kelly, of Buckhannon, and Susan Daugherty, of Roanoke; eight grandchildren: Aalyiah, Adam, April, Chris, Kari, Brad, Levi and Kody; eight great-grandchildren: Thomas, Kadie, Walker, Wyatt, Bailee, Marlee, Forrest and Laurel; one sister, Shirley McKinley and husband John, of Clarion, Pa.; one sister-in-law, Ellen Daugherty, of Clarion, Pa.; two step-children: Laura Mottram and William Witte; six step-grandchildren: Jason, Andy, Tiffany, Matthew, Morgan and Nikki; four step-great-grandchildren: AJ, Hailey, Kayla and Kara; one daughter-in-law-of-the-heart Edith June Porterfield; and her children: Dakota, Aubrey and Brylea.
Following graduation, John proudly joined the United States Army and served in the Korean War. He worked for Shinley Rocky in Buckhannon, S & W Jack, J & J Enterprises, Eastern American Energy and retired with Mike Ross at the age of 80. He spent over 50 years in the Oil and Gas Industry in various roles. Working was his favorite hobby. John was a member of Wayside Baptist Church in Buckhannon.
John’s request for Cremation has been honored at Pat Boyle Funeral Home’s On-Site Crematory. A private Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.
