Jayvee Lady Bucs tumble to Lewis County, 51-39

WESTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur junior varsity Lady Bucs couldn’t maintain a first-quarter lead and wound up dropping a 51-39 decision to the Lewis County Minutemaids Thursday evening at Lewis County High School.

Buckhannon-Upshur took the first quarter by a 13-10 score with Justice Courtney scoring six points, Lexi Kelley four points and Olivia Ellis knocking down a three-pointer.

The second quarter went to Lewis County by a 15-9 score despite Leah Moore scoring four points, all from the free-throw line, Alayna Nesbitt hitting a three-pointer and Courtney putting in a basket for the Lady Bucs.

Buckhannon-Upshur trailed at the break by three, at 25-22.

The third quarter changed the complexion of the game as the Lady Bucs lost it by a 19-5 score.

The only points in the quarter belonged to Moore and Robin Ball each making a basket and McKinley Bonnett adding a free throw.

That left the Lady Bucs down by a 44-27 score.

The Lady Bucs won the final stanza by a 12-7 margin with Nesbitt putting in six free throws, Moore three foul shots and Courtney a three-pointer.

Courtney led the Lady Bucs with 11 points while Nesbitt and Moore each had nine.

Brooke Butcher paced Lewis County with 13 points.

The Lady Bucs, now 9-8 on the season, will return to action Monday at South Charleston.

The game will begin at 5:45 p.m.
