Jayvee Lady Bucs double up Philip Barbour, 42-21

TENNERTON – In a physical and foul-plagued game, the Buckhannon-Upshur junior varsity Lady Bucs doubled up the visiting Philip Barbour Lady Colts by a 42-21 score Thursday evening at the high school.

The game featured 47 fouls, 26 by Philip Barbour and 21 from Buckhannon-Upshur, and 47 free throws.

The Lady Bucs held Philip Barbour scoreless in the first quarter as they took a 6-0 lead.

Olivia Ellis had four points and Justice Courtney two during that opening period for the Lady Bucs.

The Lady Bucs continued to dominate as they won the second quarter by an 18-2 margin.

Ellis had the hot hand with 10 points while Brooklyn Bryant put in two points, Leah Moore two free throws and Courtney and Amaia Ramirez one free throw each.

That treated the Lady Bucs to a 24-2 lead at the break.

The two teams played to an even 11-11 score in the third quarter.

Courtney had seven points while Moore tallied two and Ellis and Alayna Nesbitt one free throw each for the Lady Bucs in the third.

That gave the Lady Bucs a 35-13 advantage.

In the final quarter, the Lady Bucs were edged by an 8-7 score with Moore scoring three points, Claire Coffman and Courtney two each.

Ellis led the Lady Buc offense with 11 points while Moore added nine and Courtney eight.

Sara Simon led Philip Barbour with five points.

The win lifted the Lady Bucs to 8-7 on the season.

They will return to action Tuesday hosting Bridgeport at 5:45 p.m.
