BUCKHANNON – Buckhannon resident Billy Hurst has been hired as a sale representative for The Record Delta.
Hurst is married to Tracy, a teacher at French Creek Elementary School, and the couple has two children, Abby and Baylee.
Hurst, a Buckhannon-Upshur High School and West Virginia Wesleyan College graduate, brings a great wealth of experience to his new position at the newspaper.
He earned an English degree from Wesleyan after playing a season at Glenville State College under then head coach Rich Rodriguez.
After college, he sold insurance and focused on his music career before moving into the oil and gas business.
He noted he still sings occasionally in church and occasionally “gets the band back together.”
As an independent oil and gas agent he negotiated easements and contracts in West Virginia and Pennsylvania.
“It was the best thing that happened for my career for 10 years,” Hurst said noting the last two years had become somewhat unpredictable.
Hurst is firm in his commitment to Upshur County and West Virginia.
“I see this as an, opportunity to use the skills I’ve developed over the past couple of decades to help the community and local businesses expand their opportunities,” Hurst said. “I believe I’ve got the right set of skills to help the community and businesses.”
“I believe in Buckhannon,” he said. “It’s my home. I’ve got roots here, I don’t want to leave.”
Hurst wants to see Buckhannon and Upshur County succeed and grow.
