TENNERTON – With the start of the 2021 fall seasons underway, Buckhannon-Upshur took a moment to reflect back on the 2020-2021 year naming Ryan Hurst and McKeznie Reynolds as the Male and Female Athlete of the Year.
Hurst had a banner senior season becoming the all-time leading scorer in B-U boys’ soccer history.
He scored 26 goals his senior year and had four assists last season.
For his efforts, he was named to the WVSWA and WVHSSCA All-State First Teams.
He followed that up with his senior basketball season winding up as a 1,000-point scorer for the Bucs which put him fourth all-time in school history. He ended his career with 1,016 points.
He was Second Team All-State in basketball and First Team All-Conference where he led the Bucs in scoring with 17.0 points per game while leading the team in made-three pointers (54), assists (3.7 per game) and steals (2.0 per game).
Reynolds was a four-sport star during her senior year participating in volleyball, basketball, swimming and softball.
In volleyball, she was an All-State Second Team performer and earned First Team All-Conference honors.
As the lone senior on the team, she led the team in aces with 61, kills with 148, blocks with 22 and digs with 174.
As a swimmer, she was part of two relay teams, the 200-yard freestyle relay and 200-yard medley relay, that took runner-up honors at the state championships.
On the basketball court as a forward, she averaged 5.6 points and 5.5 rebounds per game.
