Huge fourth quarter lifts JV Little Lady Bucs to 21-18 victory over Bridgeport

BRIDGEPORT – Talk about a total change of fortune.

The Buckhannon-Upshur junior varsity Little Lady Bucs had all sorts of trouble getting their offense going for three quarters in a game against Bridgeport back on Dec. 19.

They had just six points heading into the last quarter and trailed by an 18-6 margin.

Then the fourth quarter happened.

The JV Little Lady Bucs outscored Bridgeport by a 15-0 margin for an improbable 21-18 victory.

In the first quarter, a basket by Brooklyn Smith was the only scoring for the Little Lady Bucs as they trailed 6-2 after one quarter.

Olivia Shipley scored a basket and Rylee Carr put in two foul shots in the second quarter as the Little Lady Bucs were outscored by an 8-4 margin.

They trailed at the half by eight, at 14-6.

B-UMS failed to score in the third quarter leaving them down by an 18-6 margin heading into the final quarter.

While the Little Lady Buc defense shutout Bridgeport, Smith poured in eight points on the offensive end while Avi Travise put in three points and Taylor Spratt and Shipley each put in two free throws to account for the Little Lady Bucs’ 15 points.

Smith paced the Little Lady Buc offense with 10 points.

They will return to action Tuesday at Philippi for a 6 p.m. contest.
