Huge first inning leads Buckhannon Post 7 to an 8-6 victory over Clarksburg Post 13

LOST CREEK – The Buckhannon Post 7 Legionnaires put together an all-around complete game in an 8-6 victory over Clarksburg Post 13 Friday evening.

The win was the second in a row for general manager Kevin Boring and his squad as they improved their record to 5-7 overall.

Buckhannon Post 7 did most of their damage in the first inning with a six-run outburst.

Logan Bailey started the inning with a walk and Hunter Stone followed with a double.

Alek Seech knocked in both with a two-run double.

Taylor Whitehair sent Seech home with a double and Zach White and Ryan Smith both followed with walks to load the bases.

Elijah Arbogast hit into a ground out that scored Whitehair to make it a 4-0 contest and Wesley Rosencrance hit a single that scored White and Smith to give Post 7 their 6-0 lead.

“We got off to a good start scoring six runs in the first which put the pressure on Clarksburg right from the beginning,” remarked Boring.

Clarksburg scored a run in the bottom of the first but Post 7 answered with a run of their own in the top of the second when Arbogast singled home Whitehair who had previously walked.

Clarksburg cut into the lead with a run in the bottom of the third and then chased across four runs in the bottom of the fourth to make it a 7-6 contest.

Post 7 added an insurance run in the top of the sixth inning when Trey Leigh singled and then later scored on a ground out by White.

Post 13 managed to get a one-out walk in the bottom of them seventh bringing the tying run to the plate but they were never able to score a run against Buckhannon reliever Ryan Smith.

Post 7 collected 10 hits in the win with Bailey, Whitehair and Rosencrance each getting two.

Smith earned the win pitching 3 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.

He didn’t allow a hit and walked just one.

Rosencrance started the game and went 3 2/3 innings and gave up two earned runs on six hits and fanned three.

“I thought we got big pitching performances from both Wesley and Ryan,” remarked Boring. “Wes showed more consistency than he has all season. He was able to get us deep in the game and Ryan was able to be very efficient and close it out for us. Overall it was a good team win.”

Clarksburg managed six hits in the contest with Pat Bart getting two.

Buckhannon was scheduled to play Summersville Post 131 Saturday in a doubleheader.

They will return to action Tuesday when they visit Elkins Post 29 for an Area V game at 7 p.m.
