TENNERTON — An elderly couple required medical transport after crashing into a Morris Street home on Tuesday afternoon.
Denver Wilson, age 83, and his wife Nora were reportedly turning onto High School Street in a blue 2019 Ford Ranger when he lost control and accidentally struck another vehicle driven by Kristina Smith. Wilson then proceeded up High School Street and exited the roadway before hitting George Kowalkoski’s home and coming to a stop inside the dwelling.
Smith said she was waiting at the stop sign to turn onto Route 20 in her 2016 Dodge Journey when Wilson’s truck turned in and hit the front end of her vehicle, shoving it backwards. Smith stated that the truck then accelerated and struck the house up the road after hitting her SUV.
Mr. Wilson said he kept hitting his brakes and they did not work, which led to his truck crashing into the Kowalkoski’s house.
The Wilson’s had to be extricated from their vehicle, which was removed from the scene by A&S Towing, and both were transported for medical treatment. Smith was not transported, and her vehicle was reportedly driven from the scene.
Sgt. R.S. Rolenson of the Upshur County Sheriff’s Department investigated the accident, assisted by Sgt. Caynor. The Buckhannon Fire Department responded, assisted by other VFDs and Upshur EMS was also on scene.
