Hoagy’s Heroes to host RTE/BBQ benefit for Ronald McDonald House

GLEN DALE — Hoagy’s Heroes, Inc. Long Distance Charity Riders are slated to have an “Up in Smoke” Ride to Eat and BBQ contest to Benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC). The event will be held on Saturday, August 6 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the St. Jude Hall located at 826 Jefferson Avenue in Glen Dale, West Virginia.

The mission statement of Hoagy’s Heroes is “to organize and operate exclusively to sponsor motorcycle events for the purpose of raising money for the benefit of selected charitable causes. Our work is guided by the common desire of our members and supporters to help the afflicted or less fortunate so they may enjoy the generosity of all who care. It is our goal to promote safe motorcycle riding activities while participating in what we enjoy most: motorcycle riding.”

Robert “Hoagy” Carmichael’s passion for motorcycles began in 1972 when his father introduced him to riding. As a pastime he enjoys so much, he turned into a way to help others, creating Hoagy’s Heroes. In 2003, Hoagy’s Heroes hosted its first ride for charity. Since then, the organization has traveled over one million miles to 49 states and raised more than $345,000 for children’s charities. “I love to give, and I’ll do anything to help children,” said Hoagy. “Hoagy’s Heroes, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. 100% of all donations received are given to the charities. Without your help, we would not have been able to experience such inspirational events. Your generosity will allow us to continue to help children. Thanks again,” as stated by Hoagy’s Heroes, Inc.

RMHC Pittsburgh and Morgantown is one of the organizations Hoagy’s Heroes supports. For more than a decade, the group has been hosting a Pop Tab Run for the Ronald McDonald House. Each year, Hoagy and 60 riders deliver pull tabs they collected all year long to Ronald McDonald House in Morgantown. Led by a police escort, the riders deliver an impressive number of tabs, which are then recycled, supporting the families staying at the Charity. Their record is nearly 700 gallons of tabs.

And this year, in addition to the legendary Pop Tab Run, Hoagy’s Heroes will host a special BBQ event, benefitting the families staying at the Ronald McDonald House.

Tasters are needed for the BBQ Contest! The fee is $30 per person and $50 per couple and is open to the public! All votes are People’s Choice. Local vendors and amateur cooks have registered for the event.
