BUCKHANNON — The Upshur County Sheriff’s Department is seeking information related to a Sunday hit and run incident.
Ellamore Volunteer Fire Department and the Upshur County Sheriff’s Department responded to a two-vehicle accident that reportedly occurred April 4 around 4:00 p.m. on Mt. Nebo Road.
Investigating officer Deputy T. Caynor explained that Mt. Nebo is a narrow road and the two vehicles met in a turn where a lifted orange Chevrolet SUV allegedly crossed the center line and crashed into the other oncoming vehicle. June Rutter was reportedly driving a 2010 GMC truck and explained that she tried to get over to the right as far as she could, but the orange Suburban or Tahoe with a Virginia license plate still struck her vehicle.
After the collision, Rutter reportedly jumped out of her truck to check if the driver of the other vehicle was okay. According to Rutter, the driver of the SUV responded that he had no insurance and then fled the scene. No injuries were reported following the accident; however, Rutter’s truck received heavy front-end damage.
The incident is still under investigation with the Upshur County Sheriff’s Dept. as they are actively searching for the subject of the hit and run. They are asking that if anyone sees a lifted orange Chevrolet Suburban/Tahoe with Virginia plates to please contact the Upshur County Sheriff’s Office at (304) 472-1182.
