High-speed motorcycle chase ends in crash

BUCKHANNON — A Lewis County man remains behind bars following a high-speed chase that ended with a crash in Upshur County.

Christopher Michael Lipps, age 31, of Jane Lew, was charged with fleeing with reckless indifference after he led area law enforcement on a multi-county pursuit Wednesday afternoon. The Upshur County Sheriff’s Dept. was summonsed to assist the Lewis County Sheriff’s Dept. when Lipps allegedly ran from them on a red motorcycle at speeds of 90-100 mph.

According to court documents, the chase began on the Lewis County end of Hacker’s Creek Road and Lipps continued to flee from officers onto the Teter Road where he flew through a school zone. The accused reportedly passed several cars and the pursuit ended when he eventually crashed. Deputies said they found Lipps near the wrecked motorcycle on Teter Road.

Lipps is currently detained at Tygart Valley Regional Jail in lieu of a $10,000 cash only bond.
