High school puts up banners of senior athletes at football stadium

TENNERTON – While the spring athletic seasons may have been canceled earlier in the week due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the administrators at Buckhannon-Upshur High School still saw a way to recognize the seniors who missed out playing their final year.

Administrators hung banners of the senior athletes on chain-link fence in front of the Freal “Red” Crites Memorial Football Stadium for all to see.

“We had to try and do something for our senior athletes,” remarked Buckhannon-Upshur athletic director Rick Reynolds. “We had them in storage, so we decided to hang them up and let everyone see them. It is just a small way to honor them since they were not able to play their spring seasons.

Reynolds said the initial feedback from the banners being put up was positive.

“We still have a few more that need to go up, but I have received positive feedback from parents that we were able to do this for the seniors.”
