HES students enjoy educational field trip downtown

BUCKHANNON — Kindergarten students from Hodgesville Elementary School traveled to Main Street in Buckhannon on Friday for a phenomenal field trip. HES students have been studying community helpers and were able to visit these places in person to learn more about the organizations and their roles.

The day began with a tour of the Buckhannon Fire Department and the Buckhannon Police Department. The next stop was to meet Mayor Robbie Skinner and see inside City Hall.

Stockert Youth and Community Center was a lunch stop with a visit by Sweetie and Sweet A Licious for dessert. The tour continued to the Buckhannon Post Office where students were able to mail a letter to a family member. First Community Bank allowed students to see inside and even create their own business plan.

The last stop of the day was at the Upshur County Courthouse with a tour by the County Commissioners.

Mrs. Tenney commented, “It is so great to live in a town where the people of Buckhannon willingly open their offices and encourage the young students to dream and achieve.”
