BUCKHANNON — A Union Elementary student and Upshur County family need your help! The family of “Wonder Woman Princess” Tiar Heckman and others in the community are hosting a drive-by benefit dinner to assist with costs as she undergoes extensive chemotherapy and other medical necessities to defeat the 5-year old’s battle against a rare and aggressive adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC).
The dinner will take place this Saturday, October 24 at The Way of Holiness Church in Buckhannon from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. The family has a big dinner planned, which entails spaghetti, a side salad with your choice of dressing, two slices of French bread and a choice of drink and dessert. Adults can purchase the meal for $7 and kid’s meals will be available for $3.50, with one slice of French bread. A delivery option will also be available. The number to place an order for delivery will soon be available on Tiar’s benefit dinner page, “Benefit Dinner by Drive-Thru.” Decals, bracelets and t-shirts for Adrenal Cancer Awareness will also be available to purchase. Any additional proceeds from the dinner will be donated back to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Tiar’s aunts Nakiah Green and Amber Heckman organized the event, along with Green’s fiancé Michael Ruf. Lynn Tenney from The Way of Holiness Church assisted in getting the convention hall reserved and donated to the Heckman family for the event. Fred Eberle Technical Center Practical Nursing students Kourtney James and Kenda Chapman, along with many other students in the program, donated food and assisted with the to-go packaging. Many others will be involved in making, distributing and delivering the food.
Tiar’s mother, Nicole Heckman expressed, “I am so thankful and blessed to see everyone coming together to help us out during this difficult time for our family… it is truly amazing. Thank you all very much.”
Tiar received her first round of chemotherapy on Saturday, October 17 at St. Jude, where she will continue doing so, as her battle has just begun, and she has many long weeks ahead. The little girl recently posted a video thanking everyone for gifts and well wishes she has already received. Letters and packages to help brighten her spirits are welcome at 1811 Poplar Ave. Room 410, Memphis, TN 38104.
Although it is a scary time for Tiar, her mom and “bonus mom” Brittany have made many posts expressing their gratitude and appreciation for the great staff at St. Jude Hospital. They stated, “The staff here are so amazing. T got all kinds of crafts and stuff to do. Even had a jam session before we left.”
Help Tiar and her family out by enjoying a delicious meal for just $7 on October 24 at The Way of Holiness Church or call in for a delivery. For more updates on Tiar, check out her Facebook page at “Tiar - Wonder Woman Princess.”
