Half-point separates top three in Bob Cupp Memorial Golf League standings

TENNERTON — The top three in the Bob Cupp Memorial Golf League standings stood firm after the matches last Wednesday, July 6. The race for the third-quarter title is heating up, as only a half-point separates First Community Bank, High Point Construction, and Custom Cabinets.  

The most anticipated match of the week saw the league’s top two third-quarter teams, First Community Bank and High Point Construction. The two battled it out in a highly competitive, fireworks filled match. In the end, in spite of a narrow, 18 ½ to 18 loss to High Point Construction, the First Community Bank squad still sits atop the leaderboards for the Bob Cupp with 55 total points. With the win, High Point Construction pulls themselves within a half-point of First Community Bank, finishing week #13 with 54 ½ total points. After dominating UniFirst Corporation team in their head-to-head match-up last Wednesday; Custom Cabinets moved into a tie for second-place with High Point Construction after picking up the win by a final score of 19 ½ to 9 1/2/, with the ten-point margin of victory was by far the largest of the week.  

Sam’s Pizza made a move into the top four of the Bob Cupp standings after beating Feola’s Flowers by a score of 19 to 13. The Hank Ellis Insurance team dropped a spot in the standings from fourth to fifth after coming up short in a high-scoring match to Highland Landscaping, losing by a score of 20 to 17. Finally, in the final match of the day, Baker Tilly beat Lisa Cain Edward Jones by a score of 18 ½ to 11 1/2 to jump from ninth in last week’s standings to seventh this week. 

A bevy of players enjoyed standout days on the course last Wednesday, as John Mathias of Sam’s Pizza, Mike Feola of First Community Bank, Chris Brady of Highland Landscaping, and Jimmy Dean of Highland Landscaping all tied for Low Actual honors with scores of 39, while Mike Feola earned Low Net honors with a score of 30.
