Guns stolen from car

BUCKHANNON — Two handguns were among the items reported stolen from vehicle break-ins at Audrey’s Restaurant Sunday afternoon.

Chief Matt Gregory with the Buckhannon Police Department said an individual or individuals broke windows on two different vehicles to gain access. Inside a black Chevy Silverado, the thief took two guns — a P22 Walther and a 9 mm Glock — two purses and an overnight Victoria Secret bag with medication inside. A white Toyota Rav4 was also broken into and had a purse stolen with bank cards.

The thefts were reported at 3:30 p.m. and believed to have happened sometime around 2:20 p.m. Patrolman Dan Barcus is investigating.

“In our experience, the forced entry is a little unusual,” Gregory said. “Most people who break into cars are opportunists and just simply locking the door will deter a lot of it. That is not always the rule, as in this case.”

Anyone with information or who recognizes the stolen  property is asked to contact the BPD at 304-472-5723, call the crime tip line at 304-473-1001 or leave a tip at www.buckhannonpolice.com.
