BUCKHANNON — Festival Fridays hosted a fun and tasty competition last week. The annual Green Bean Cook-off began at 5 p.m. in Jawbone Park. Two contestants entered the cook-off and festival goers had the opportunity to sample both styles of beans and also to help snap beans if they desired.
The Green Bean Celebration helps to raise awareness giving back to the community in the form of food donations to the Parish House. Mike Cozad and Rich Clemens of the CREATE Buckhannon group were selected as the judges for the cook-off. Cozad stated, “We chose the healthier blend because of the different zest it had and the fact it was a healthier alternative to the more traditional style of the other dish.” Jean Browning’s green beans were chosen as the winner. She cooked her beans with plump tomatoes, which offered a very different zest for sure.
Follow the Annual Green Bean Day Celebration’s Facebook page and remember it is an annual event, so be sure to get involved next summer if you missed it. The Parish House is always in need of food donations to keep the pantry stocked to help neighbors in need.
