Governor Justice shuts down winter sports until at least Jan. 11

CHARLESTON – West Virginia Governor Jim Justice announced Friday morning during his COVID-19 press conference that high school winter sports will not be permitted to start until Jan. 11.

The governor did not specify whether that date was to start games or to start practices at press time on Friday evening.

The Buckhannon-Upshur swim teams started their practices back on Oct. 27 while the girls basketball team started their preseason this past Monday.

Boys basketball and wrestling were to start their preseasons this Monday.

Gov. Justice also stated that the fall seasons still in play (cheerleading, football and volleyball) will be allowed to continue.
