Golf Bucs win six-team opener at Keyser; Lane low medalist for B-U

KEYSER – Fresh off a run in the state tournament in 2020 and a line-up featuring four seniors this season, the Buckhannon-Upshur golf team picked right up where they left off last year.

The Bucs opened their 2021 season Wednesday in a six-team outing at the Polish Pines Golf Course in Keyser.

The Bucs had the top four golfers in the field with Isaac Lane earning low medalist honors with a 39.

Evan Coffman took second with a 41 while Landon Hitt and Tucker Hurst finished in a five-way tie for third place with 42s.

Brayden Hamer and Easton Perkins each shot 47s for the Bucs to round to the roster.

The Bucs also claimed first place easily with a score of 164.

Keyser was a distant second 13 strokes behind with a 177 while Moorefield was third with a 190.

“This was a nice opener for us,” remarked Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Jason Westfall. “We were not familiar with the course which tested us and two of the other teams there were state qualifiers last year.”

The Bucs will be back in action Monday at the Pines Country Club in Morgantown facing off against Morgantown and University.

The junior varsity Bucs were slated to have outing on Thursday at the Mountainview Golf Course with North Marion and Trinity.
