Golf Bucs take runner-up honors at Bel Meadow quadrangular match

CLARKSBURG – Buckhannon-Upshur’s Evan Coffman was just one shot off the lead for the Buccaneers in a quad match at Bel Meadow with Lewis County, Lincoln and South Harrison.

Coffman finished third overall after shooting a 40, one stroke behind South Harrison’s Dakota McNemar and Lewis County’s Hunter Heath who shared low medalist honors with a 39.

“I am proud of Evan as he posted a good score and was solid all day,” remarked Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Jason Westfall.

B-U’s Isaac Lane checked in with a 48 while Landon Hitt and Tucker Hurst rounded out the scoring for B-U with a 49 and 53 respectively.

Brady Hurst shot a 54 for the Bucs while Brayden Hamner fired a 59.

“Isaac did well and Landon and Tucker are turning the corner,” noted Westfall. “Brady was off today but that is the game of golf. I thought Brayden, for a freshman, was a little overwhelmed today but I thought he finished strong.”

After beating Lewis County the first two times they squared off against one another, this time it was the Minutemen who claimed victory.

Lewis County shot a team score of 172 while the Bucs took runner-up honors with a 190.

Lincoln was third with a 201 and South Harrison was fourth with a 209.

“Overall, we were just inconsistent today,” stated Westfall. “Lewis County did well and got us today. They have a good group of kids and it’s a friendly rivalry between them and us.”

The Bucs will be back in action today when they visit Fairmont for a dual match with Fairmont Senior.

They will be back home Tuesday when they host University at 4 p.m.
