MORGANTOWN – Evan Coffman and Brady Hurst earned low medalist honors for the Buckhannon-Upshur golf Buccaneers in a dual regional match with University on Wednesday at the Lakeview GC.
Both Coffman and Hurst shot identical 43s.
The duo helped the Bucs easily down the Hawks by 17 strokes as the Bucs carded a 175 while the Hawks shot a team score of 192.
“This was a solid regional win for us at Lakeview,” remarked Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Jason Westfall. “Conditions were very wet and windy making the old course play difficult. I’m proud of how our players kept their focus and played through it. Coffman and Brady Hurst battled through their rounds for us to earn the win.”
Isaac Lane helped the Bucs to the win with a 44 while Tucker Hurst rounded out the B-U scoring with a 45.
“Lane is just not finishing his holes and he is working hard to correct it on the range,” stated Westfall. “He is extremely talented, but he needs to clean up his approach around the green. I am sure he will. Tucker again recovered from a poor round to tie his career low. He needs to find his consistency.”
Landon Hitt fired a 48 for the Bucs while Bradyn Hamer shot a 52.
“Hitt struck the ball well but needs to finish holes better and his scores will quickly reflect it,” stated Westfall. “Hamer needs to find some consistency and he is gaining experience each match. I have another player pushing to break into our top six. The increased competition will make us better and help fuel us to our goals.”
University was led by Jack Giobbia who shot a 45 and Landon Spiker who fired a 48.
The victory improved the Bucs to 10-1 overall and 3-1 in the region.
They were slated to host a match Friday at Bel Meadow with Fairmont Senior, University and Morgantown.
They will return to action Monday at Elkins in a tri-match with Elkins and Bridgeport.
