Golf Bucs earn second at home match with Morgantown and Elkins

TENNERTON – Evan Coffman took runner-up honors for the Buckhannon-Upshur Buccaneer golf team at a home tri-match Monday evening against Morgantown and Elkins.

Morgantown’s Carter Patrick won the event with a 41, while Coffman fired a 42.

“Evan had a nice round and is starting to hit his stride,” noted Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Jason Westfall.

Morgantown took the next three spots as Antonio Rollo placed third with a 43 and Courtney Kline and Jack Wiedebusch tied for fourth with identical 45s.

Buckhannon-Upshur’s Isaac Lane and Landon Hitt placed in a tie for sixth with both Bucs shooting a 46 while Brady Hurst rounded out the B-U scoring with a 49.

Tucker Hurst shot a 49 while Breanna Morgan fired a 57 to round out the B-U line-up.

“I thought Landon played a solid round and was more relaxed,” remarked Westfall. “I am definitely seeing some growth in his game. Isaac had a tough day. He got into some penalty strokes which cost him a lower score.”

Morgantown won the event with a 174 while the Bucs carded a 183. Elkins took third with a 243.

“Morgantown went to states last year and every time we saw them they would handle us,” concluded Westfall. “This year, we are able to compete with them and they know we are on the rise.”

The Bucs will go to Green Hills Country Club in Fairmont today and then Bridgeport Country Club on Thursday.
