Golf Bucs continue to shine in outings at Clarksburg CC and Apple Valley GC

Buckhannon-Upshur’s Evan Coffman sinks a long putt for par on hole three at Apple Valely Golf Course. Coffman, along with teammate Isaac Lane, earned low medalist honors with 38s as the Bucs won the tri-match.

WHITE HALL – Evan Coffman and Isaac Lane were co-low medalist for the Buckhannon-Upshur golf Buccaneers last Thursday in a tri-match with East Fairmont and Liberty at the Apple Valley Golf Course in White Hall.

Both golfers carded 38s to lead the Bucs to a victory in the event.

As a team, the Bucs shot a 170 while East Fairmont shot a 211. Liberty did not field a complete team.

Landon Hitt and Tucker Hurst each shot 47s for the Bucs while Brayden Hamer fired a 49 and Brady Hurst owned a 51.

Jacob Laya led East Fairmont with a 48 while Jacob Gallagher shot a 47 to lead Liberty.

“It was a good win,” remarked Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Jason Westfall. “I was very pleased with Coffman and Lane hitting 38s. This marked the first time we had two players in the 30s. Coffman was able to record our team’s first eagle. They are surging towards the end of the season playing solid golf. I’m happy with our team because our competition level has raised and the players have handled it well. They are competing for limited spots but they respect the process.”

A day earlier at the Clarksburg Country Club, the Bucs came up just short in a quad with Bridgeport, Lewis County and Robert C. Byrd.

Bridgeport shot a 176 while the Bucs checked in with a 178.

Lewis County shot a 224 while Robert C. Byrd did not field a complete team.

Alex Hawkins of Robert C. Byrd earned low medalist honors with a 37.

For the Bucs, Lane was the low golfer with a 42 while Coffman shot a 43.

Hitt checked in with a 44, Hamer a 49 and Tucker Hurst and Brady Hurst each shot a 51.

Marra Johnson and Connor Messe each led Bridgeport with 43s while Ryanne Garrett paced Lewis County with a 48.

“We did not play our best on a warm day,” noted Westfall. “The Clarksburg Country Club offers tight playing conditions and it caused us some difficulty, but we gained some valuable experience for our post-season.”

The Bucs were slated to play in the Route-33 Cup on Monday at Stonewall with Lewis County and Elkins.

They will square off against Lincoln, Liberty and South Harrison today at Bel Meadow Golf Course.

They will visit Tygart Lake Golf Course Wednesday and meet Grafton and Robert C. Byrd.
