Golf Buccaneers finish runner-up in six-team match at Bel Meadow

CLARKSBURG – Isaac Lane racked up another top five performance for the Buckhannon-Upshur golf team here last Thursday in a six-team match at Bel Meadow.

Lane took third-place among 26 other golfers firing a 43.

Teammates Evan Coffman, Landon Hitt and Tucker Hurst all shot 49s while Brady Hurst checked in with a 56 and Breanna Morgan shot a 66.

Those scores helped the Bucs to a runner-up finish with a team total of 190.

Grafton won the event with a 179.

Lincoln was third with a 202 while South Harrison was fourth with a 216.

Grafton captured the first two individual spots as Christopher Miller earned low medalist honors with a 38 while Caden Moore fired a 39.

“We saw some of the state’s best golfers in the two kids from Grafton in Miller and Moore,” noted Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Jason Westfall. “It was a great opportunity for us to get better and we did. We still have inconsistences but that is to be expected with a young team.”

The match concluded a busy stretch of four straight days of golf for the Bucs.

After having the weekend off, the Bucs will return to action to today for a home outing at the Buckhannon Country Club at 4 p.m.

They will follow that up with a trip to Bridgeport on Thursday.

“We want to  be the best and the road to being the best has many opportunities to grow and learn,” concluded Westfall. “We have expectations for low scores and we are still trying to manage that pressure. I am still very proud of how our team is competing and having the goals set to be the best.”
