Gatha Mae Bachman

Gatha Mae Bachman, 87, of New Smyrna Beach, Florida and previously of Pickens, WV, went to her Heavenly Home on Wednesday, October 21, 2020. She passed in the comfort of her home and surrounded by loving family.

She was born in Webster Springs on September 3, 1933, a daughter of the late James Wade and Vestia Virginia Cogar Tiffner.

On October 10, 1951, Gatha married the love of her life, Dennis Arnold Bachman. Together, they shared 56 wonderful years of marriage and raising their four daughters before Dennis’s passing on November 2, 2007.

In addition to her parents and husband, Gatha was preceded in death by five siblings: Beatrice Spittler, Nora Bachman, Gary Tiffner, Regina Kelly and Robert Tiffner.

Left to remember Gatha’s fun loving nature are four daughters: Lena Marsh and husband, Edward, of New Smyrna Beach, FL, Sharon Whiteside and husband, Steven, of Nutter Fort, Denise Flanagan of Conowingo, MD, and Lorrie Lasher and husband, James, of Palmyra, PA; nine grandchildren:  Michael “Shawn” Marsh and wife, Melanie, of Deltona, FL, Kaitlyn Marsh and wife, Dana, of Fredericksburg, MD, James “Jamie” Coons and wife, Melissa, of Luckett, VA, Steven Whiteside and wife, Jennifer, of Leesburg, VA, Jackie Whiteside of Warren, MI, Justin Flanagan and wife, Vesta, of Conowingo, MD, Jonathan Flanagan and companion, Miranda, of Conowingo, MD, Erikka Deardorff and companion, Anthony, of Palmyra, PA, and Michael Lasher and wife, Kayla, of Palmyra, PA; 13 great grandchildren; two brothers: James “Sonny” Tiffner and wife, Connie, of Pickens, and Roger Tiffner of Buckhannon; three sisters: Virginia “Gennie” Jackson of Rising Sun, IN, Sue Haddix and husband, Michael, of Pickens, and Charlene Duke of Pickens; and several nieces and nephews.

Gatha was born and raised in Wild and Wonderful West Virginia. She remained there until around 1972 when she and her family moved to Maryland but always referred to West Virginia as home. Once Dennis and Gatha retired, they returned to the “Country Roads” of West Virginia to enjoy their new retired lifestyle. She attended the Pickens Baptist Church and belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary. Gatha enjoyed fishing, hunting, and most importantly spending time with her family. She loved her role as homemaker because she treasured her time spent with her children. Gatha was always smiling and cracking jokes, and she will be truly missed by all who knew her.

The family requests that all visitors follow the current COVID-19 guidelines and wear a mask.  Family and friends will gather at Clutter Funeral Home located at 21 Elnora Circle in Buckhannon from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 28, 2020. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 29, 2020 in the Clutter Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Don Butcher officiating. Interment will follow at Pickens Cemetery.
