Frosh Bucs light up scoreboard in debut against Braxton Co.

BUCKHANNON – The Buckhannon-Upshur Buccaneer freshman basketball team lit up the scoreboard in their opener against Braxton County in an 81-54 victory Wednesday afternoon at West Virginia Wesleyan College.

The Bucs scored 25 points in the first quarter with Zach Calef-Boring leading the way with seven points with Shawn Blandino adding six, Gage Raschella and Josh Nesbitt five each and Zade Woody two.

The Bucs added 20 more in the second quarter and led at the break by a 45-14 score.

Woody flipped in six points with Raschella, Blandino, and Ryan Snyder each adding four and Calef-Boring two during the second quarter.

The Bucs lost the third quarter by a 17-15 margin but still led by a 60-34 score.

Mark Hurst tallied seven points, Blandino added four and Keyton Lanier and Brayden Hamer two each in the third quarter for the Bucs.

Hurst scored seven points, Blandino five, Wade Nesbitt, Ely Cain, Hamer and Raschella two each and Josh Nesbitt one for the Bucs in the fourth quarter which went to Braxton County by a 23-21 score.

Blandino led the Bucs with 19 points while Josh Nesbitt and Hurst tallied 14 each.

Matthais Garauglia paced Braxton County with 14 points.

The Bucs will return to action today when they host Philip Barbour.
