Freshmen Bucs win finale against Tigers, 58-49

TENNERTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur Buccaneer freshman ended their season in style with a 58-49 victory over the Elkins Tigers Friday evening at the high school gym.

The Bucs darted out to a 15-10 lead after one quarter with Malaki Williams scoring five points, Dominik English four points, and Jaden Westfall, Nathaniel Ringer and Ian Strader two each.

The Bucs lost the second quarter by a 13-7 count a trailed at the half by a 23-22 margin.

Westfall tallied three points while Ringer and Williams each had two.

The Bucs cranked it back up in the third quarter doubling up Elkins by an 18-9 score with Ringer getting seven points, Williams five, English four and Strader two.

That gave the lead back the Bucs as they went into the fourth quarter up by a 40-32 score.

The Bucs won the final quarter by an 18-17 count with Ringer scoring seven points, Williams five, Justin Streets three, Westfall two and Ryan Kelley one.

Ringer led the Bucs with 18 points while Williams chipped in with 17.

Brock Holland paced Elkins with 18 while Griffin Boggs added 15.

The Bucs of head coach Roberta Hatcher ended their year with a 5-4 record.
