Freshmen Bucs end season with 51-31 defeat to Elkins


ELKINS – The Buckhannon-Upshur freshmen Buccaneers dropped their final contest of the year, a 51-31 decision, to the Elkins Tigers here Wednesday evening.

The Bucs had trouble getting their offense going in the 20-point loss.

Buckhannon-Upshur held a 7-5 lead after one quarter of action with Shawn Blandino putting in five points and Gage Raschella two.

B-U managed just four points in the second quarter, a pair of free throws from Zade Woody and Ely Cain and lost it by a 12-4 margin.

The Bucs trailed at the half by a 17-11 margin.

The Bucs again managed just four points in the third quarter, getting two baskets from Blandino.

They were behind by a 35-15 score entering the fourth quarter.

The two teams battled to an even 16-16 deadlock in the final stanza,

Blandino had the hot hand with 10 points while Raschella hit a trey, Woody dropped in a basket and Ryan Snyder added a foul shot.

Blandino led the Bucs with a game-high 19 points.

Elkins was led by Jack Bragg who scored eight points.

The Bucs ended their season with a 4-6 record.
