Freshmen Buccaneers lose to Indians, 55-42


BUCKHANNON – The Buckhannon-Upshur freshmen Buccaneers lost a 55-42 decision to the Bridgeport Indians Friday night in a home encounter.

The Bucs fell behind by a 17-12 score after one quarter of play with Malaki Williams scoring six points, Jaden Westfall four and Ian Strader and Nathaniel Ringer one each.

With Strader putting in five points, Jaden Westfall four and Williams a free throw, the Bucs lost the second quarter by a 16-10 margin and trailed at the break by a 33-22 count.

The Bucs narrowly lost the third quarter, 11-10, with Nathaniel Ringer scoring three points, Williams, Strader and Blake Runyon two each and Westfall adding a free throw.

B-U dropped the final quarter by another 11-10 count.

Williams had four points while Strader, Ringer and Eli Mahaffey each had two.

Williams scored a game-high 13 points to lead the Bucs while Strader had 10.

Naelyn Chandra paced Bridgeport with 12.

The loss dropped the Bucs to 3-4 on the season.

They will return to action Wednesday at Lewis County.

The game will tip at 4:30 p.m.
