BUCKHANNON — Wilson Martino Dental took part in the eighth Annual Freedom Day USA on Thursday. The event offers locals active in the military, as well as veterans and their immediate family, a day of free dental cleanings, X-rays, exams, fluoride treatments, and any other same-day work that time might allow to show gratitude.
Wilson Martino’s CEO Robert Martino founded the event in West Virginia to give “A Day of Free, for a Lifetime of Freedom,” as the slogan states, and the event has only grown since its beginning. This year, over a thousand dental offices and businesses joined the event nationwide, varying from offers of free dental care to free food, gifts, discounts and more. In West Virginia, over 200 businesses have joined in and in Buckhannon alone, Wilson Martino Dental recruited 26 area businesses to show their support for this year’s event.
“Basically, one day our owner was thinking of how the soldiers make a sacrifice for us, but what do we do for them? And their families also make that sacrifice. It’s to show that we appreciate the sacrifices that they make every day. And not just on holidays and birthdays, but on an everyday basis,” explained Kati Boone, Freedom Day City Coordinator.
The Buckhannon office received around 11 raffle-style donations from local businesses, including a heavy-duty hoodie from Southern States Buckhannon and a new Vera Bradley backpack from Caplan Jeweler’s in Weston. Wilson Martino Dental also gave patients complimentary special oral care mouth rinse at their visit.
