Four-vehicle accident stops traffic at Route 33 intersection

BUCKHANNON — Upshur County first responders arrived at the scene of a four-vehicle accident at the intersection of Route 33 and Brushy Fork around 2:30 p.m. on Monday, May 9.

Buckhannon Fire Department, Buckhannon City Police and Upshur County EMS were all on scene to assist the affected motorists. EMS did transport two individuals from the scene to St. Joseph’s Hospital. At this time the extent of their injuries remains unknown.

It is speculated that the driver of an Energy Transportation (ET) dump truck out of Clarksburg, W. Va., was traveling west on Route 33 when it slammed into the back of stopped vehicles at the red light of the intersection. A Subaru Outback was totaled secondary to extensive damage. Two other vehicles involved included a white Ford Explorer W. Va. State vehicle and a grey Kia Optima. The Explorer’s air bags did deploy and the vehicle suffered damage to the back and front of the vehicle. The Kia suffered damage on the front passenger side of the vehicle. Two other vehicles were able to proactively avoid the accident.

The Buckhannon Police Department is still investigating the crash. Further details and information will be released once the investigation has concluded.
