BECKLEY – Four Buckhannon-Upshur soccer players, two Lady Bucs and two Buccaneers were selected to participate in the 2020 West Virginia High School Soccer Coaches Association (WVHSSCA) North-South Senior Showcase games held Sunday at the Paul Cline Sports Complex in Beckley.
The games were originally scheduled for East-West Stadium in Fairmont but due to the change in winter sports, the Marion County Board of Education told the WVHSSSCA they could no longer use the stadium.
For the Lady Bucs, midfielder Maggie Queen and defender Kennedy Samargo had the opportunity to compete in the showcase for the North.
For the Bucs, forward Ryan Hurst and midfielder Lane Tenney were selected to compete for the North.
The South girls were able to hold off the North as they won the contest by a 4-3 score after jumping out to a 2-0 lead midway through the first half.
On the boys’ side, the North blanked the South by a 3-0 score after the game was deadlocked at 0-0 at the half.
University’s Ryan Nett tallied a hat trick in the second half for the North to give them the victory.
