BUCKHANNON — The West Virginia 80th Strawberry Festival commenced on Saturday, May 14 with the highly anticipated Horse and Carriage Parade.
The chance of stormy weather deterred almost all of the carriage owners; however, the horses were lined up and ready for the show. Only two carriages were included in the parade, drastically cutting down the lineup. Although, the windy conditions spooked some of the horses, causing them to fall out of formation, they quickly regained composure to impress the parade-goers.
Despite the unexpected decrease in parade, many visitors traveled from out of town to spectate and enjoy the gift shop, located at 9 East Main Street.
Looking farther into the week, the weather should be much nicer giving parade-goers the experience they are looking for. There is still so much more to come before the Festival concludes on Sunday, May 22.
The carnival will be setup and ready for tons of fun, from 6 to 10 p.m. starting on Wednesday, May 18 and delicious food will be available at Jawbone Park, starting on Tuesday, May 17. There will be plenty to do and experience. Enjoy the Festival and watch for all the coverage in future editions of The Record Delta!
