Football Bucs drop season-finale to Elkins, 46-20

ELKINS – The Buckhannon-Upshur football Bucs dropped their season-finale to the Elkins Tigers by a 46-20 score on a very cold evening on the grass at Wimer Field.

Elkins scored on their first possession of the game when T. J. Guire finished off a seven-play, 80-yard drive with an eight-yard touchdown run.

The point-after kick was no good but Elkins took an early 6-0 lead.

The Bucs came right back and marched it down the field with the drive ending in a touchdown when Ryan Strader hit Tyler Kuhn for a 23-yard touchdown pass in the corner of the end zone with 2:30 left in the first quarter.

Cameron Zuliani’s point-after kick was good as the Bucs took a 7-6 lead, their only lead of the game.

The Tigers took control of the game in the second quarter with four touchdowns.

Guire scored on a six-run yard, Peyton Isner recovered a bad snap on a B-U punt attempt and Dennard Wyche had a 53-scoring run and quarterback Rodney Vandevender hit Wyche for a 12-yard pass for a 33-7 lead at the half.

Vandevender had a pair of short touchdown runs in the third quarter to push the Elkins lead to 46-7.

The Bucs scored two late touchdowns as Strader found Kuhn for a 28-yard pass with 2:20 left in the game and added a 25-yard scoring strike to Sterlin Thropp with 16 seconds remaining in the game.

Trenton Westfall led the B-U offense with 108 yards on 16 carries.

Strader ended the season with 12 passing touchdowns.

He completed nine of 23 for passes for 108 yards and three scores.

His favorite target was Kuhn who had five catches for 53 yards and two scores.

The Bucs ended the year with 1-9 record.
