Focus: “Thanksgiving”

Blessings I am thankful for

A blessing is something to be thankful for. A blessing is a divine gift or favor bestowed on us which makes us happy and prosperous. With Thanksgiving next week, someone recently suggested we write down 100 blessings we are thankful for. We may not reach the number of 100 or maybe we can find more than 100 reasons we are blessed. When we take the time to write down the many things we are thankful for in our lives, we might realize just how blessed we are.

I decided to make a list and was surprised to find out how many blessings have touched my life. I am thankful for my Heavenly Father who loves me unconditionally and who is with me always. I am thankful for Jesus, my friend, who loves me even when I do not deserve His love. I am thankful for the Holy Spirit who guides me even when I make mistakes. The Holy Spirit helps me get back on the right path of my journey through life. Without my Heavenly Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit, I would be lost.

I am thankful for parents who gave me unconditional love and who taught me rules, manners and self-confidence. I am thankful for a wonderful grandmother who taught me all about the love of Jesus. I am thankful that God sent me the soul mate who kept my life interesting, who loved me through my faults and who brought three wonderful children into my life and helped to teach them the important blessing of life. I am especially thankful for my four grandchildren who are a testament of the love and support their parents give them every day. I am thankful for my relatives, my friends and co-workers who have enriched my life in an abundance of ways. I am blessed by my church family and am blessed by music and the choir family who loves to sing together. Music is a blessing that will soothe the soul. I am blessed by the times of conflict I have had by various situations that led me to a better understanding that not everything is always perfect. We all make mistakes. If God forgives, we can forgive too.

Sometimes when I am walking or driving along, I am in awe of the many blessings God has provided for us to enjoy. I am thankful for the birds that sing. I am thankful for the sun that gives us light and warmth. I am thankful for the moon and stars that guide our paths in the darkness. I am blessed when I see the blue sky and fluffy clouds that float by. Sometimes I even see special things in the clouds. I feel so blessed and excited when the leaves peep through the branches of the trees in the spring. I love to see the horizon sketched with a wonderous variety of color from the trees in the fall. I feel blessed to see the first snow when everything is covered in white and the snow sparkles. What about the blessings of the rainbows in the sky? Everyone knows that the rainbow is a promise from God. Sometimes, God will put two rainbows in the sky together. Maybe this is a double blessing.

There is nothing more special than the gift of life. Remember the birth of your children and grandchildren. These are wonderous blessings from our Creator. Life is precious and we must use our lives to enrich the lives of others.

I am in awe of the many blessings of the varieties of foods that have been designed by God to enrich our lives. What would we do without water, milk from a cow, eggs from a chicken, juices from a wealth of fruits, vegetables and grains? What would we do without the sheep’s wool to keep us warm? Can you imagine how long the list would be if we wrote down every blessing we receive from God’s creation? Our lives are truly blessed.

Since time began, the human race has continued to discover, invent, create and progress with the knowledge given to us by our Creator. We should be the most grateful souls on earth. Yet, the greatest gift bestowed on us by our Heavenly Father is what we have the most trouble sustaining. The greatest blessing we have been given and the most important gift we have to give is LOVE. This is the blessing we should be thankful for every day. LOVE makes all blessings possible. As you write down your blessings, put LOVE at the top of your list. If everyone would strive for LOVE to be their best blessing and share it with others, can you imagine how our lives would be blessed and the world would be a better place for all.

Thanksgiving has been with us since our ancestors settled in this land. Thanksgiving is a time to share a meal together or to just be with family and friends. Thanksgiving is a time to remember our blessings and to share our blessings with those who need to be blessed. Our world is moving at such a fast pace that we forget to be thankful for the little things. Our blessings should never be taken for granted. Let this year’s Thanksgiving be the time to show others how blessed we are to be able to share our blessings. Never forget to tell family and friends how blessed you are to have them in your lives. The truest measure of our thanksgiving is how we use the blessings for which we give thanks. Pray for PEACE this Thanksgiving. Count your blessings instead of your crosses; count your gains instead of your losses. Count your smiles instead of your tears; count your courage instead of your fears. Count your health instead of your wealth; count on God instead of yourself… The truest measure of our thanksgiving is how we use the blessings for which we give thanks.

“May you and your family have a blessed Thanksgiving”
