Festival Fridays cancels Aug. 13 celebration

BUCKHANNON — With only a few Festival Fridays events remaining this summer, the August 13 celebration has been cancelled for the safety of all involved.

COVID-19 is reportedly on the rise again and Upshur County currently has too many active cases for organizers to feel comfortable with the weekly event proceeding at this time. The Upshur-Buckhannon Health Department is recommending that even those who have been fully vaccinated stay proactive in helping slow the spread. Sanitize often, wear masks if you can, and try your best to social distance.

Even with tons of precautions in place, Create Buckhannon has made the difficult decision to cancel this Friday’s events. Many people will not agree with this decision; however, the group said they aim to do what is best for everyone involved.

Unfortunately, Festival Fridays is not the only event that has been cancelled this weekend due to COVID numbers elevating. The Annual Green Bean Celebration has also decided to cancel planned festivities. Though not fully cancelled, Relay for Life has adjusted procedures to allow for a safe event as well.
