BUCKHANNON — A Wednesday morning fire on Fayette Street is currently under investigation after an entrapped occupant had to be rescued.
Firefighters, EMS and local law enforcement responded to the structure fire at 87 Fayette Street around 11 a.m. According to Buckhannon Fire Department Captain Brian Elmore, an elderly woman was entrapped in the second-floor bedroom area and suffered severe injuries. She was reportedly transported to the hospital and the other four people living in the home escaped without injury. Minimal damage was sustained to one room and some of the contents.
The BFD was assisted by Adrian, Warren District and Washington District Volunteer Fire Departments.
According to scanner traffic, the Arson Hotline was contacted, and the State Fire Marshal has been called in to further investigate the circumstances of the fire.
