TENNERTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur golf Buccaneers remained hot in the early part of the season as they completely dominated a four-team Big 10 Conference home event last Monday at the Buckhannon Country Club.
The Bucs scored a 165, well ahead of second place Philip Barbour who carded a 211.
Preston checked in with a 222 for third place and Elkins was fourth with a 231.
Buckhannon-Upshur’s Evan Coffman and Isaac Lane both earned low medalist honors shooting identical 39s.
“Coffman and Lane led us today with medalist rounds,” noted Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Jason Westfall. “They know they need to do what they are capable of doing and everything will work out like today.”
B-U’s Brady Hurst placed third overall with a 41 and Bradyn Hamer was fourth overall with a 46 to round out the Buccaneer scoring.
Landon Hitt shot a 50 and Tucker Hurst a 52 for the Bucs.
“We had another solid day overall but we had some struggles because they weren’t putting themselves in better scoring positions,” said Westfall. “Hamer finally posted a score we are proud of. He is talented and with some maturity to his game, he could turn a few heads this year. Brady Hurst had another strong showing and the senior might have found his stride early in the season.”
Chayce Andrew led Preston with a 47, Bradyn Cole and Mason Halfin paced Philip Barbour with both golfers shooting a 48 and Elkins was led by Tanner Miller with a 52.
The Bucs improved to 5-1 overall and 5-0 in the Big 10 Conference.
Mother Nature wiped out two outings for the Bucs.
They were slated to go to Bridgeport last Thursday for a tri-outing with Bridgeport and Fairmont Senior and Monday’s home meet with Bridgeport, Lincoln, North Marion and Wheeling Central was canceled.
The Bucs will return to action today when they visit Preston in a five-team outing with Preston, East Fairmont, Bridgeport and Robert C. Byrd.
They will stay on the road Wednesday when they visit University at the Mountain View Golf Course.
