Ethel Lucille Simons, 83, of Buckhannon, gained her wings on Tuesday, July 14, 2020. She passed after an extended illness at the United Hospital Center in Bridgeport.
She was born in Meadowville on September 23, 1936, a daughter of the late Minter and Viola S. Allender Smith.
On September 7, 1954, Ethel married James Boyd Simons and together they shared 58 wonderful years of marriage before his passing on October 2, 2012.
In addition to her parents and husband, Ethel was preceded in death by four siblings: Virginia Smith, Mary Godfrey, Oleta Winnings, and Scott Smith.
Ethel’s loving and selfless nature will be remembered by one daughter, Brenice “Bren” Simons-Tharp of Buckhannon; two grandchildren: Nathaniel Russell and Dakota Tharp; one brother, Maynard Smith of Hodgesville; and several nieces and nephews.
After her marriage to James, Ethel assumed the role of homemaker. She loved spending her days caring for her home and her family. Ethel was a member of the Faith Tabernacle Pentecostal Church in Buckhannon. She loved attending church functions and singing during Sunday services. During her stay at Holbrook Health Care Center, Ethel was well known as a socialite. She never knew a stranger and enjoyed carrying on a conversation with anyone who crossed her path. Ethel also enjoyed playing BINGO with her friends at Holbrook’s.
Family and friends will gather for Visitation at Clutter Funeral and Cremation located at 21 Elnora Circle in Buckhannon from 12-1 p.m. on Saturday, July 18, 2020. Funeral Services will begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday in the Clutter Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor John Darnall. Interment will follow at Indian Camp Cemetery in Alton.
