Errors cost Little Lady Bucs in losses to Bridgeport and Mountaineer


BRIDGEPORT – Errors, walks and passed balls spelled finish for the Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School Little Lady Bucs here Tuesday evening in a 14-6 loss to Bridgeport’s Lady Braves.

The Little Lady Bucs were guilty of eight miscues and numerous passed balls, and Jansen Kimble walked nine and hit a batter. Only one of the 14 runs off her was earned.

Bridgeport jumped into a 6-0 lead in the opening inning without a hit, using three bobbles, five walks, two passed balls and a pair of wild pitches.

Buckhannon responded with two markers in the second on two passes, a miscue, a passed ball and Bailey Blackwell’s single.

The Little Lady Bucs tallied three runs in the top of the third frame to edge to within one run, cashing in on two walks and a hit batter, and getting singles from Kimble and Taylor Spratt.

Two errors, a walk and Kiligh Pugh’s single produced two Bridgeport markers in the bottom of the third to up the count to 8-5.

The Buckhannon girls tallied their final run in the top of the fourth when Katarah Linger led off with a single, moved to second on a wild pitch, stole third and scored on another wild pitch.

The Lady Braves added two in the home half of the fourth, taking advantage of two errors, a walk, a hit batter and a couple of wild pitches.

They chased four home in the sixth to end the contest on the mercy rule, utilizing a walk, a miscue, a passed ball, two wild pitches, doubles by Rachel Mason and Jally Laxton and Maddie Garner’s single.

Errors continued to plague the Little Lady Bucs last Wednesday evening in a 15-3 loss to Mountaineer (Morgantown).

The Little Lady Bucs were guilty of eight miscues that led to nine unearned runs.

Mountaineer opened the scoring with a solo marker in the first inning when Gabby Garrison doubled, stole third, and scored on Ashlyn Weaver’s ground out, and added three in the top of the second stanza on two errors, a hit batter, Natalie Voithufa’s single and Anna Argalonte’s two-bagger.

The Little Lady Bucs tallied their three runs in the home half of the second inning. Alexis Cannady led off with a single, Jansen Kimble reached on an error and Taylor Spratt belted a run-scoring double. After Bailey Blackwell fanned for the first out, Kendall Bohnsack singled to right-center to drive in the other two markers.

Mountaineer plated six in the third, using two miscues, a hit batter, two passed balls, Argalonte’s single, a double by Sydney Reed and Garrison’s two-run homer.

The visitors tacked on two in the fourth on a walk, three bobbles and Reed’s single, and ended the game on the mercy rule in the fifth with three.

Kimble worked in the circle and suffered the loss, allowing 10 hits, walking two, striking out six and hitting two batters. Only six of the runs off her were earned.

The defeat dropped the Little Lady Bucs to 1-8 heading into Thursday’s contest with visiting Washington Irving.

They will entertain Robert L. Bland this evening, South Tuesday and Lincoln Wednesday, and then travel to Clarksburg Thursday to battle Mountaineer to complete a four-game week.
