BUCKHANNON – The officers for the 2019-2020 Elks Lodge year were installed Monday evening by past Exalted Ruler, Richard Ewing.

The Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks is one of America’s oldest and largest fraternal organizations having been founded in 1868.  It was founded by a group of sixteen entertainers in New York City which functioned primarily as a Social Club. The club was originally known as the “Jolly Corks”, with the founder being Charles Algernon Sidney Vivian.

Today, it is known for its dedication to America’s veterans and youth with over a network of nearly 2000 lodges and a million members throughout the United States. Their programs include providing scholarships, hosting an annual Hoop Shoot, providing community and veterans services, and promoting a drug awareness program.

The local lodge has scheduled a semi-annual fundraiser known as the “Cash-Bash” at 5:30 p.m. on Sat. April 13. Donations are $25 a ticket, and includes an open bar from 5:30 p.m. to 6 pm, along with your choice of baked steak, chicken, or a ham dinner.

There will be drawings for a cash payout every half hour starting from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m. Tickets can be obtained by visiting the Elks Lodge at 47 North Kanawha Street in Buckhannon, and will also be available at the door the night of the event.

West Virginia State president, Walter Ice, is also scheduled to make his official visit at that time.
