Electric Pole fire shuts down section of Route 20


BUCKHANNON — On Tuesday, July 12, an electric pole fire caused a downed power line and road closure for several hours on Route 20, North of Route 33.

The City of Buckhannon posted about the road closure at 3:22 p.m. on their Facebook page stating, “Public Service Announcement (PSA): Fire Chief J.B. Kimble has announced that Route 20, North of Route 33 is currently closed to traffic.”

Buckhannon Fire Department Chief Kimble explained, “We were called out for a power pole fire. The fire had caused the pole to split in half, causing the high-tension power lines to collapse, making it dangerous to traffic in the area.” Kimble explained that the area closed was Route 20 to Liggett Addition. Kimble also stated that in addition to the Buckhannon Fire Department, the Buckhannon City Police Department, Mon Power and the Department of Highways were also on scene.

The area was closed for nearly three hours as the City of Buckhannon announced the area was open for traffic at 6:20 p.m. Kimble stated that the cause of the fire is being determined by Mon Power.
