Early morning accident sends multiple people to the hospital

BUCKHANNON — First responders were called to a one-vehicle accident with entrapment Thursday on Hackers Creek Road.

According to Upshur County Sheriff Deputy Cole Bender’s report, the driver of a red 2002 Ford F-150 attempted to avoid hitting a parked vehicle in the road with hazard lights on.

The accident occurred at approximately 6:20 a.m. Thursday morning. Gary Bailey, age 72 of Buckhannon, and his two passengers went through a fence and hit three trees on the other side after Bailey saw a vehicle with flashers on sitting in the middle of the road.

Additionally, Buckhannon Fire Department and Warren District Volunteer Fire Department were on scene. The Jaws of Life were required as the truck was stuck between two of the three trees that were hit.
